Dedication can come in many forms, from participation in a sport to the responsibility of a job. Most lack an understanding of this feeling that drives a person to push beyond those boundaries placed before them. However cadets of North High’s Saxon Battalion understand that dedication is something more than attending meetings and wearing uniform’s every Tuesday. It is an acknowledgement of personal faults and a striving to become better citizens. That is why the Battalion, each year, holds Awards Ceremonies, Sports Days, The Golden Bear West Coast National Drill Meet, Community Color Guards, Veteran's Day Ceremony, and teacher Luncheons for North's faculty and staff. North High’s JROTC Program has been in constant expansion with the teamwork of Command Sergeant Major Duran and Master Sergeant Graham’s dedication and leadership within the program. With the addition of peer-led class periods, each student has the ability to become a leader learning traits such as time management, self-discipline, and the ability to succeed in life beyond high school. This is because the main purpose of JROTC is to get its students into college. Now standing as the last program in the Torrance Unified School District and Number One Program on the West Coast, the Saxon Battalion can fulfill their mission of motivating young people to become better citizens.
